NoveList was selected
as an LJ Best Reference Database. - Library Journal,
April 15, 2000
First released in 1994, NoveList
is an online readers' advisory service that helps readers find
new books based on books they've read or topics in which they
are interested. NoveList also supports the
development of exemplary library service to readers with Book
Discussion Guides, Booktalks and staff development resources.
NoveList provides
enhanced subject and keyword access to over 100,000 fiction
titles. In addition over 90,000 of these titles include either
a full-text review or an annotation. Over 32,000 individual
subject headings are used in this service. NoveList
subject headings are provided by the renowned Hennepin County
Public Library. The product contains reviews from Booklist,
Library Journal, Publisher's Weekly, and School
Library Journal. NoveList includes links to
author homepages and fiction-related web sites. NoveList
has an editorial board comprised of many of the country's
leading readers' advisors.
Robust Database of Fiction
Titles
Use NoveList's "Find a Favorite
Author" or "Find A Favorite Title" feature to
locate a list of John Grisham's titles, and then use one of
these titles to find more than 200 legal thrillers for John
Grisham fans. The product also uses natural language searching
to search the product's full-text reviews to find
"fast-paced thrillers" or books that make good
"read aloud" titles for a day-care center.
Lists, Guides, and In-Depth
Articles
NoveList contains over 1,200 pre-constructed
booklists on a wide range of topics and genres. Contained
as part of "Explore Fiction" and "Best
Fiction" sections, these lists are also a great starting
point for readers who are browsers.
Book clubs are on the rise and NoveList's
book discussion guides contain everything a book club member
(or librarian) needs to know to have a stimulating and
satisfying meeting. The product's booktalks are actual scripts
of booktalks delivered by such well-known young adult
librarians as Bonnie Kunzel (a former president of the Young
Adult Library Services Association).
NoveList now also
contains Read-alikes. Written by Joyce Saricks and other
nationally known reader advisory experts, this powerful new
resource describes an author's appeal and style and then
defines how the suggested 'read-alikes' are selected based on
the traits described for the author. They provide a context
for these subjective features and then provides read-alikes
based on what has been described.
